The best squat knee sleeves stand out for their thickness, their stiffness, the quality of the neoprene and their fit. For competition and heavy loads, go for a stiff 7 mm knee sleeve that maximizes joint support and rebound out of the bottom of the squat.
For general training and prevention, a softer knee sleeve is enough: comfort, compression and warmth. So the choice depends on your level, your loads and your use.
What are squat knee sleeves?
Squat knee sleeves are neoprene sleeves (usually 7 mm) worn around the knee. They provide compression, warmth and joint support, and return a bit of energy at the bottom of the movement. In streetlifting and powerlifting, they are mostly used for:
- The heavy squat and the weighted squat
- The front squat and the overhead squat
- Preventing knee pain and aiding recovery
Not to be confused with knee wraps (elastic wraps): neoprene knee sleeves offer compression and warmth, whereas wraps aim for maximum rebound. The thicker and stiffer the neoprene, the greater the support.
How to choose your knee sleeves
The 6 essential criteria to check before buying, based on your level.
Compression supports the joint and improves circulation. The higher the stiffness, the greater the support.
Neoprene is the standard: durable, flexible and good heat retention. 7 mm is the benchmark.
Measure your knee circumference. The knee sleeve should be tight without cutting off circulation.
The hourglass design offers a better fit. Check for reinforced stitching.
Check IPF / FNSL compliance if you plan to compete.
From 35€ to 139€. For competition, the MPDS PRO 2.0 are the best investment.

How to use squat knee sleeves
4 steps for optimal, lasting support.
Measure the circumference of your knee to choose the right size. A knee sleeve that’s too big won’t protect you enough.
Roll the knee sleeve halfway, position it on the knee, then unroll it. The compression should be even.
Do a light warm-up before putting on the knee sleeves: warm joints benefit more from the compression.
Wash after sessions according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Air dry, never in a tumble dryer.
